I have a proof of concept version of OpenWatch for Symbian but there are some things keeping me from releasing it right now.

1) I have to use a workaround to make it connect in Python. This works fine on 1.9.7 but not on 2.0.

1a) The connection is no that super stable.

1b) Nokia released 2.0 via their Software update service only (almost 2 months ago). It still not possible to use 2.0 on some phones. (http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192263)

1c) Nokia did not release the source of 2.0 nor any changelog. (http://wiki.opensource.nokia.com/projects/PyS60)

1d) The source code of 1.9.7 is not complete which keeps me from adding feature to make the connection stable. (http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190423)

1e) Who knows if they ever check their tracker (https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=4958&group_id=854&atid=320 4)

2) Notifications for calls/SMS are ok but the rest is not that easy (is it even possible without creating plugins for PyS60?)

3) Each one of you would probably have get a test certificate and sign their copy to allow such things as key injection (call rejection, silent ringing call, control player...).

Hi,

1. It may be tough

2. Can you give us some beta release, with basic "contact name" and "sms display on watch" function working properly?

3. Heaving to certify programs is common problem until you "unlock" your phone to be able to install uncertified software. So for 3, IMHO, link to some FAQ about certifying or unlocking your phone should be enough. :D

Since you've developed a WinMo version, I guess it isn't to hard to port that to Symbian S60 using this page: http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/.NET_Technical_Overview

I haven't any experience with it, but "Mobile developers wishing to create cross-platform .NET solutions for Symbian and Windows Mobile." sounds interesting ;)

Also, if you've something to test, I own a SonyEricsson Satio wich runs on Symbian S60 5th edition and I'm happy to test things if you like.

edit: I just see that Redfivelabs is no more....

QT won't help, it's just for GUI. The problem is that Python for S60 is too limited and I'm not good in C++.

Well atleast Step 3 is basically covered with Security Manager:
http://www.pdaapps.org/symbian-os-9-1-9-2-3rd-edition/7589-binpda-security-manager-v1 -10-s60v3-symbianos9-internal-binpda.html

Sic!software does the pretty much the basics (with SMS & ID text display), but no music functions despite me using v2.2 & my FP2 phone (N78).

You could expand on this to take it to a whole new level. But i guess this is going to have to bring out the best from you, like when you made your original SmartWatchM.
