So I have had my watch since they were released (MBW-150) and now it will not hold a charge. I have tried to get some info from Sony Ericisson and Fossil but both had no info on replacement batteries. Has anyone had this issue or possibly know where to go to get a replacement? I have taken the battery out but it has no identifiable info on it.

I don't have a screwdriver with me right now but you can measure the cell (length, diameter) and find the most suitable standard battery size from this table: http://www.batteryweb.com/ub_lithium_battlist-coin.htm or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Button_cell
Try google for Li-Ion button/coin cell, something like ML2032, only the right size. Let us know if you find any.

thanks for responding so quick. i opened the watch up and the battery only says Rechargeable 3.7V Korea Power Cell Inc Li-(can't read the rest because the connector is covering it) and on the back it says 7E(I or 1)Z(H or A) in black printing

I found "Korea Power Cell Inc" and I think it is one of these.

PD2440 Coin type Li-ion Rechargeable Battery 3.7 150 4.2 24.5x5.2mm
PD2450 Coin type Li-ion Rechargeable Battery 3.7 200 4.2 24.5x4.2mm

I have found a few places that carry them, but I am not sure what type of connector this is.

If you have any other info or can provide any direction I appreciate it.

By the way, great work. I was using your software on my WM device when you started the project and for a long while the watch was sitting on my desk because I had to switch to a BB......

happened to me too, any idea on how to change it by ourselves? if I ask for a substitution, the second one will surely be old and with another faulty battery. no one seems to know where to find these batteries though, I looked everywhere!!

I found a place that stocks them (U.S.) and I ordered one today: 08/25/2010. I'm handy with a soldering iron, so I figured I would just relocate the cable to the new battery.

I'll update this post once I've managed to get my MBW-100 back to working condition.

Please do. My MBW-150 came DOA and I'd like to do this mod myself before writing it off entirely.

Okay, so I just took apart my watch with a Phillips #000 screwdriver and extracted the battery. Mine says the same thing as alfredtv on the front, but has "7E12B" printed in ink on the back. It seems to have green shrink tubing around the edges, two clear plastic stickers covering both flat sides (as insulation, I suppose), and uses the 0° type terminals (although they look slightly different than the ones on thebatterystore.com. The solder through-hole pads are bent inward toward the side of the cell.). The leads terminate in a JST 2-pin connector.

By the way, the physical dimensions for the PD2430 can be found in a couple places:

http://www.routejd.com/EN/index.php?mm_code=45&sm_code=100&recomm=Y&class_code=CLS000 2516&series_code=SR0015686

http://www.mvl.co.jp/item03.html

The latter mentions our SE watches by name, so I suppose that's confirmation of a sort. I don't know if Google made a faithful translation, but when I see the words "battery deterioration", that doesn't inspire much confidence in these Korean-made cells. FYI, Korea Power Cell changed their name to "Route JD" in June 2009. Make of that what you will.

P.S. Interesting characteristics to note about the PD2430 (discharge, charge, & cycle life) can be found here:

I saw the tabs and I think they were just snipped to reduce the length so that they won't stick out. My batteries should be here tomorrow, so I might just make a short tutorial about the replacement. I'm sure we're not the only ones with these watches and batteries that need replaced.

UPDATE - I trimmed the tabs and got them flush with the outside diameter of the battery. Un-soldered the connector from the bad battery and soldered it on the new battery. Charged for just 6 hours and I've been rocking my MBW-100 for about a week with 75% charge left!

The battery I got didn't come with the insulating clear tape, so I just used normal packing tape to insulate each side.

If you have a dead watch, it is _definitely_ worth it to to spend 30 minutes DIY-ing a replacement battery.

I took some pics with my iPhone, so if anyone wants to see what I did, let me know and I'll upload them for you all.

Woo! working MBW-100 battery replacement!!!
